He is absolutely right! Learning at school in which year Napoleon or Julius Cesar raised to power, or algebra, is absolutely useless. Is there any person who found it useful to know that in their own life? Nobody. You want to know it? Fine: Google it or use a calculator! Children need to learn creativity, adaptation, invention, meditation, spirituality, being flexible; and in the NOW instead of learning about the past.
